Champion for Kids

by Elizabeth

As a last minute “do good will” project, and I say last minute because I must be the queen of procrastination, I set out to Walmart to work on our Champion for Kids project. We made no list.  We were winging it.  I brought my oldest son with me because there is nothing like dodging the shopping carts and witnessing the madness of Christmas as we stroll through the Walmart for the main purpose of bringing OTHERS Christmas cheer.  My thoughts were it would put things in perspective for my little man on what really was important and I am glad to report, it did. “People are crazy today”, he said as we almost ran over by a shopping cart.  (poor little dude)

Since my house is decked from corner to corner with all things blue I thought, “Here is my chance for PRINCESS stuff!”  My son wasn’t as pleased with this decision as I was but he soon understood that not everyone had what he does.  (He is a lucky duck)  We purchused glitter lip gloss, nail polish fit for a princess, toothbrushes decked out in royal Disney characters, and some sweet chocolate.  (we needed to give them a reason to brush those ;) teeth)

We walked out with clear bread bags and ribbon and we threw in a festive dose of hot chocolate that we made later.  After we made it through the long checkout line my son was pleased with our purchases. (even though it included Christmas stuff) As others has their carts filled to the rim we had a cart barely filled at all but intentionally picked out products for strangers we would never meet.

I shared before why we picked Matt’s Stocking as our charity for choice.  We think this organization meets exactly what Champion for Kids is all about.  We loved be part of this campain.  As we wrapped and organized our box of gifts we knew it was going to put a smile on a few kiddo’s faces.  It put a smile on my boys.  My husband and I are on a mission to not only show our kids what world has to offer but what our kids can offer the world.
